About us a brief history

Established 1953

Whites Pharmacy is a family business that was established in 1953 by Michael & Kathleen White who were both pharmacists.  They bought the old Teehan's Medical hall at 101 High Street which was directly across the street from the present premises.  Prescriptions, over the counter  medicines, cosmetics and photographic products comprised of the bulk of the business.  Michael, who was very interested in photography, promoted and devloped the photographic side of the business at that time by developing black and white films at night.

New developments 1974

Kieran White the son of Michael & Kathleen joined the firm in 1974 as a pharmacist and introduced the first dispensing computer in Kilkenny.  He further developed the photographic side of the business.

Move to new premises 1984

in 1984 the Marlowe Cleaners building at 5 High Street was acquired and after extensive refurbishment the business relocated.  The cosmetic and photographic sides of the business were expanded and in-house photographic image processing was introduced.

Further Development to existing building 2003 / addition of a dedicated Camera shop and imaging centre

A further rebuild of the premises took place in 2003, creating an opening onto Pudding Lane, giving easy access to the Ormonde Street / Pudding lane multi storey car park.  This rebuild enabled a dedicated camera shop and imaging centre to occupy the first floor and a patient consultation room to be incorporated on the ground floor.

Whites pharmacy is a modern up to date pharmacy with easy access to both High street and Pudding lane. Our qualified staff can assist you in all aspects of our business with expert advice on medicines, top class cosmetics, make overs, and your photographic needs.

Our photo centre is recognised as the best camera and imaging centre in the south east.
